I have no clue why my #proxmox box isn't connecting when I have it hooked up to the router that I also have my laptop connected to (via cat5, not wifi.) *sighs* I am sure that it is also something simple but also something I am entirely ignorant about. Who knows when I'll be able to get this working so I can start running VMs. Blech.

Are you using a manually assigned static IP or a dynamic IP via DHCP or something else? I'd recommend a static IP since it's a VM host. Then it boils down to making sure the IP, subnet, and DNS are correct. Are you using any Vlans on your router?

The setup for proxmox that I followed had me set up a static IP.

The proxmox box does not show up on my router client list, only my laptop does.

well, classic networking diagnosis is on order then:

- `ip addr`

- is there an address assigned to the LAN interface?

- is my IP in the same range as the rest of the network?

- is my gateway correct?

- can I ping the router?

I think that's where the problem lies. I set the static IP address outside t journal range of the router.

I'm pretty sure the gateway is also incorrect.

No, I can't ping the router.

I'll muck about with it after work.

make sure it's in the correct (LAN) port. sometimes the routers have multiple WAN (or other) ports.

This router isn't that fancy.
