i saw this pedo a few days ago and reported/muted him and all of the sick fucks following him. what does that do? it helps people that follow me not come across their content. web of trust is our best defense. if you want to take it to the next level, you could report the images to the hosting provider.

Thank you for putting this to words.

The solution isn't difficult, but its dual edged. You can only make a difference by doing your part.

we really need to do our part. as nostr:npub1gunkavtrl32txueexz44el2l49rg0gv48pc6suadf7hwj852tuuqj3nudq just said, WoT is everything.

Its a serious concern, especially when you think about malicious actors brigading to discredit a potentially disruptive community or technology.

Web of trust is everything

Web of Trust is great, IMO, but it's not perfect because new users have essentially a WoT of zero.

Maybe solutions could be found to help with that?

Well, that’s exactly what we do at Vexl

Yeah, fishcake implimented AI to detect csam at nostr.build, but also theres an fbi database of md5 hashes of known csam images that all US based image hosts are required to filter images through. This would be good for nostr image hosts to voluntarily impliment.

Its important to stress to new users, nostr notes are just text. They link to images srored on media servers. So censoring notes at the client or relay level is not the best approach, imo.

but also remember that the images may not be hosted on nostr affiliated image hosts. it could be anywhere. that makes it harder. to me a client doing a compare against image links sounds like a very resource intensive task. it may not be a good approach like you said.

Can you tell me how I can access this database?

Honestly don't have a clue. I just know from working as an expert witness that Facebook flags images if their hash matches the database. Maybe contact these fellas https://www.missingkids.org/home

I have contacts there if needed for anything specific. Let me know.

Its only ussful to image hosting companies really
