Don't get me wrong; my G17 is my favorite pistol. Got it on the nightstand right now. Throw it in the battle belt when I train. Just not something I'm lugging around with the wife and kids.

One thing that always bugged me about glocks is that I think they are awesome, but I am firmly in the ballpark of any firearm I own must have a manual thumb safety. They made variations of glocks with manual thumb safeties for the military trials years back, but lost to the sig p320.

So I know they can do it, but still they persist on not offering them to the general public. I would totally own a glock if they had them.

I know that the rule is that you are your own safety, but it is not always about me. When there are other people in the house that are not firearms savvy, or I am doing homesteading work. Shit happens. That extra little thumb safety adds peace of mind and has actually saved my ass a couple times.

I always avoided safety's; assumed they would give me a false sense of security that would lead to bad habits like flagging or not using a perfectly fitted holster.

Any little bit of extra safety is worth investing in. Even if you don't need it. If the kids running around get their hands on it.... Let's just say shit happens. Don't leave a round in the chamber if you got them there either. When you are out and about that is fine, because it is on your body at all times. If it is just laying around, or not safely stored away. I've heard way too many horror stories.

Some people love them some people hate them. Good reasons both for having them and not having them. After having them disengage from being in my pocket, or by doing heavy lifting and bending over a lot. Definitely do not have the false sense of security.

To me they are the hail mary throw of last resorts that could be the difference between my life, death, or serious injury as well as to someone else's. I mean shit when my dad flagged me after I thought he knew the basic rules of firearms a year back (he obviously did not). Sure glad that safety was engaged, because he did not have trigger discipline either.

Had to react fast and stop him, because he had no fucking clue what he was doing. Even though he was a firearms owner for years, but it had been a decade since he got rid of them, because he turned into a libtard. I would not have been happy with a 45 acp hospital trip if I survived if he fucked up any further lol.
