My father used a similar approach with me. Teach me the skills i need to endure and overcome trauma rather than traumatize me himself. Traumatizing your children yourself or willfully letting them experience external trauma will just lead to them resenting you in the future. At least, that's my experience. My dad gave me hand-to-hand combat training in my teens and that had me well-prepped for my enlistment. I've now been training my daughters in a similar fashion, including firearms training. The point is not to traumatize them at such a young age, but to give them the confidence needed to survive. And yes, don't spoil them; they'll never develop any kind of moral integeity if you do.
