No idea. The above point seems obvious to me though. Not saying one way or another if its a view he holds or understands. I would be surprised if that's both his position and reason for trying to defund open source development. Regardless of what people think about his intentions, he at least doesn't seem to me like a stupid person.

If I was raised in a fiat world and I knew how to play that game very well, I could maybe try to influence the Bitcoin game as well. If I thought “This is good, I am winning”, maybe I would be scared of any possible update to the game as “uncertainty” a new unknown, that is unnecessary and could be a threat to my winning streak. What influence do I have on the game developers, if any… 🤔 I could test the waters first. See how big are the ripples, if any
