Are ZBD users allowed to export their nsec and use another client? nostr:npub1rvg76s0gz535txd9ypg2dfqv0x7a80ar6e096j3v343xdxyrt4ksmkxrck nostr:npub1akngghxzy6d75y8szp6y44u5pxktwy5aj6zh6jl3ncp8d93fj2fq5mfxa8 nostr:npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6

No.

Does that mean it's coming soon or it's going to be something that isn't your NSEC?
That's a good question.
I have a long answer written out for you. I feel like a lot of people are making assumptions here 𤣠remember yāall, weāre building in public š¤£š¤
Thank you for this. I didnāt really understand the ābuilding in publicā aspect. The greater the excitement, the greater the impatience, I think. ššš«

Yeah honestly it makes me sad to see people assume that just because ZBD doesnāt have something now, it never will have it in the future. We only released social this early because we figured weād give our users exactly what they want. Not everyone gets it and thatās ok i guess.
Itās just that our whole team wants to deliver something wonderful to people and that has to be done thoughtfully, not in haste šš«”
Appreciate you as an OG!!!
I donāt think that assumption is out there. I think itās more a Veruca Salt mentality and the fact that people are used to final product being delivered in its end state. āEarly adopterā still meant using a final product for most folks.
Nostr and the apps that interact with it are so new, so proto, so Wild West that the city slickers that come out (me included) expect there to be more infrastructure and amenities.
Thank you to all at ZBD for your efforts and patience with us users. š«”š«š

I've been on Nostr for 9 months now. I've seen Nostr grow at breakneck speeds. Most users across Nostr assume that no client is feature complete. Most of us assume that client's features are going to be missing, broken, and improving on a daily basis.
The questions came about with ZBD because it's the first Nostr client to be closed source and manage Nostr private keys for users. That's different than anything we've seen before. Because of this, we're cautious and asking questions because we want wants best for the entire protocol and all apps across the ecosystem.
For me on a personal level, I recommend apps to people on a daily basis. I get public and private questions about Nostr clients. I can't recommend something to someone if I haven't used the client or if I don't know it's insides and outsides. If I was given access to ZBD, I'd do what I always do, I'd create a burner account and play around. But since I can't, I'm asking here in public to get some answers. š¤š»
Anyone who has been here 9 months is in an entirely different class than me and (Iām guessing) quite a few of those of us onboarded via ZBD. š«”
The easier it is to come into the Nostrverse (and ZBD made it easy and fun and rewarding), the more āusersā there will be who have different assumptions than the coders and builders who came before.
(Continued in next comment because I maxed out my character count ⦠)
For example, @samsamskies replied with 3 ways to zap at a note level from a Nostr client. 1 way involved GitHub, which as a non-coder I avoid. The other 2 were websites. Both had terms I have no idea what to do with.
Iām sure youād could easily use any of the 3. I assume he thought I could too. Coders are amazing folks⦠who sometimes assume a level of technical proficiency some of us just donāt have.
I think ZBD is trying to help their user āusersā and itās a different path.
ZBD has a character limit? Definitely try other clients and expand your horizons. I've never seen that on any other Nostr app. I wonder why ZBD made that decision?
I put in a request for a larger limit so I could post my microfiction as text. I didnāt know other clients donāt have limits.
I use Damus for things ZBD is still working on, but I can only look, not like/zap/post because I donāt have my nsec yet.
Been thinking about creating another account, but not sure I want to keep up with two. I know Iām in a small garden; that mostly works for me right now.
Have you read https://fiatjaf.com/d36862b9.html?
When something says coming soon how do you read that as ānoā
Iāve requested it in their Feature forum and asked via a support ticket. Iām constantly in Damus for the notifications, but I love being able to zap at a note level in ZBD. Would really like to be able to use the same keys for other Nostr things, but canāt yet.
GREAT QUESTION!
Weāve got so much stuff in the pipeline itās crazy. Short answer, yes itās going to be possible to use your nsec on other clients.
Long answer;
The ZBD client is not complete yet, but we never said it was ;) weāre building in public so we can gauge the interest of certain features that our users actually want to use.
With that said, developing a nostr client that is user friendly doesnāt happen in a day.
We are prioritizing features that our users want (like better DMs, better discovery, debugging, etc) and thoughtfully building out a UI and UX for our users to really feel comfortable using a private key.
A lot of people donāt know how to do that - itās not intuitive and a bit scary. So we want to make sure that our usersā experience is not scary but fun and empowering.
Weāre moving at the speed of light to make a friendly nostr client. We love every other client out there and want our users to feel comfortable venturing out into the nostr verse with ease. But right now, itās a bit tricky to introduce already this new concept of social media AND THEN the concept of having to hold this weird password that will only appear once blah blah. One step at a time.
I feel like thereās a lot of blind idealism floating around and Iām here to say this: nostr is about optionality. Weāre going to give our users the option to use anything that runs on nostr, but we cannot just randomly do it: we need to do it the right way.
Thank you for this. I appreciate the transparency š«šš¤š»
Ofc man! I love that you asked us instead of assuming that weāre sus 𤣠thatās literally the opposite of what this team is.
It's the Bitcoiner way to not trust and ask for verification š„¹š¤š»
Thank you. I appreciate it. Ask and ye shall receive an honest answer.

What's the deal with ZBD and requiring users to ID/doxx themselves? I remember being excited about trying it out, first couldn't sign up because I was using a VPN, then couldn't sign up because I was using a service like SimpleLogin.
Nostr/clients/relays are confusing...
lol, walled gardens always have their reasons. and they are always bad excuses.
I suggest reading nostr:npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 ās blog post :)
