Indeed as you say the coordinator would have the ability to add computers without your consent, I will investigate more about this, it is not good.
With ZeroTier , you can run your own coordinator with OSS, unlike Tailscale

To be fair the Headscale reimplementation is OSS, the problem is it's only unofficially endorsed by Tailscale so there's no guarantee of support.
