Too many people (not on #nostr of course) I talk to accept that they are powerless in securing their privacy. They throw their hands in the air and surrender. Privacy in my mind isn’t a black and white issue of living in a cabin off the grid or plugging directly into the matrix.

When it comes to privacy, you may not be able to prevent Big Tech from copping a feel here and there, but that doesn’t mean you can’t stop them from routinely screwing you in the ass. And like anything worth doing, good digital hygiene is a continual practice, one that is a journey and not a destination.

I’m far from where I’d like to be today, but miles from where I started.

Nostr is horrendous for privacy.

Its much much worse than big tech, but levels the playing field of who has access to the data.

Want to see all Jack Dorsey's post? Just enter his pubkey.

Want to see whos talking to who and social relationship graphs? You can do that. Just suck data from relays and feed to Palantir.

Nostr is a wet dream for data analytics.

It creeps me out to think that anyone can enter my pubkey and see how many likes and zaps I get. So I try to not think about it.

Last I checked nostr clients don’t require an email, phone number, or to browse my phone’s contact list.

I think in a “town square” you’ll always be able to see who is talking to who, but yes being open to everyone is key.

The flipside would be small encrypted chat groups, and not really a large social platform, no?

🤷‍♂️

Well said. Privacy is like a muscle — if not used, it’ll lose its strength.

💪

Privacy is a spectrum.

You can make some massive gains quite quickly, cheaply & easily.

You don't have to be perfect to make it hard for them to track your every movement.

Quick wins:

- Mullvad

- Proton

- Graphene

Absolutely. Love that you can buy Mullvad with #bitcoin too. Never going back to not doing this.

Yup & for when fees are high or you're in a rush, this works well.

I buy the Mullvad voucher with lightning & manually redeem.

That’s badass!
