What's wrong with "musician"? Or I guess "producer" seems more common than "maker" in the biz.
Discussion
I've thought about it a lot, I don't see myself as a musician as if you passed me a guitar or keyboard, whilst I could play some things, I wouldn't be very good. Producer is often wrongly applied, there's people making beats calling themselves producers and that's cool but the producers I know spend more time on the phone than making music, it's really about hustling and managing a budget.
Music maker seems more akin to what I'm doing. I sod about making sounds with a bunch of toys until I feel I can't make it any better.
Interesting. I associate "music producer" more with DJs mucking about in Garage Band but I guess that's just coz I meet more of them than actual successful industry executives.
And no shade on them, a lot make some really cool stuff but for me, the producer tag is really about getting the music out and bringing in the funding. Quite a few home producers do that but have they ever tried to keep a band organised and on target making a record? That’s a totally different skill set. I’m happy to use producer when putting out Liotia stuff as I know I’ve handled that but until the INPC name brings in some dosh (if it does at all) I’ll stick with maker.
