"Why abstain from happiness

When like a skilled lion

Your heart is nearing

And will someday see

The divine prey is always near!"

I afore Hafiz and have read all his poetry. Of course I don’t know all of them by heart, but am curious to find out the translation of which verse this one exactly is. Do you happen to know the name of the translator?

I don't know. I will check the book from where I taken to see if there is a source and come back at you.

Appreciate it. I know it can this can be probably answered by ChatGPT, but prefer the nostrichan touch :))

This is what I got from ChatGPT:

The poem you’ve provided is rendered by Daniel Ladinsky, who is known for his imaginative interpretations of Hafiz’s poetry. It’s important to note that Ladinsky’s works are not direct translations but rather creative renderings inspired by Hafiz’s themes. This approach has been a subject of debate among scholars and readers. For instance, an article titled “Fake Hafez: How a supreme Persian poet of love was erased” discusses concerns about the authenticity of such interpretations.
