The Emperor is a figurehead no more powerful than Charles, and their "religion" amounts to unmaintained shrines scattered around the country gradually falling into disrepair because nobody gives a shit anymore and will be totally lost as the older generation dies off and the countryside is depopulated. Their culture is entirely dictated by America, their youth are in some ways bigger hedonists than ours, and they have a literal gun to their head in the form of an occupation army preventing them from fixing anything.
