Artists want to be free. I get it.
But you donโt go to every movie or buy every piece of art or music, etc. Why should you pay for EVERYTHING they do?

But you donโt go to every movie or buy every piece of art or music, etc. Why should you pay for EVERYTHING they do?
You donโt. You pay for what you find meaningful/valuable to you. If itโs meaningful enough to โlikeโ it, then itโs meaningful to zap it. Otherwise you donโt really value what they made in the first place.
Not really. There are nuances.
When something makes you smile, you like it; when something makes you laugh out loud, you zap. ๐
What would you know about zapping people except that you never do it? ๐
๐
I did but True
Then your opinion on the matter is as irrelevant to me as a nocoinerโs opinion on bitcoin.
Anyone that disagrees with you is automatically disregarded? Thank god you canโt ban me โฆ. Yet ๐
Itโs not that you disagree, but that you donโt even engage in the V4V economy so you canโt have an informed opinion on it. You add no value to the conversation.
You smoked this buddy for breakfast. Great conversation ๐
But he can, who are you to say?
Your posts are so condescending, itโs ridiculous. Each individual decides whatโs valuableโthatโs what the #Nostr protocol is about: putting the users in charge.
So essentially, your โinformedโ opinion is irrelevant.
I agree, its more nuanced than โparticipation = payโ
I only normally zap things that make me think, move me, get my curiosity itch scratched.
But i hold those things to a higher standard maybe than a quick laugh or chuckle. Funny is great, but doesnโt meet my zap mental threshold i guess ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Almost liked tiered levels of participation in a post?
You press โlikeโ because it makes you feel like you did something meaningful when in reality you didnโt. Itโs worthless. Zap or donโt zap. Comment or donโt comment. Repost or donโt repost. Likes are just not meaningful and are simply a tool of legacy social media to inform algorithms.
Did you even read what I wrote? I understand you have your opinion on what likes used to be, but I just told you why I use them now. Me telling somebody with a quick button click that something they created made me smile or smirk and I see you, maybe thats worthless to you because you want money for everything you post i guess? But to me and probably a lot of people thats not worthless. I repost and I comment and zap things also, not just likes. Something may be pointless to you, or you only view it in its old outdated form, but it still has value if you can separate it from your hatred of who created it. Comments are difficult for me in general (iโve always been a lurker, i donโt ever text even or text people back haha) but i still like to do them if something moves me to.
Likes are a more subtle way to participate. You donโt seem like a very shy or reserved person ๐๐ so maybe thats part of why its difficult for you to see other perspectives on the matter ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Do you understand at all what I was saying in my original post with the meme? Please look again.
Well maybe I donโt understand the post then, are you saying that what we currently have and are building is unsustainable to grow nostr? And the like button is part of the cause of Nostr not being able to win out in the end? Isnโt this the space to be free of centralized platforms? Or you mean that the clients here are too centralized?
Because otherwise, you already have that now here at Nostr and you are super early with a great position to take advantage of millions coming over and still zapping. All i was doing was trying to explain why people do what they do in the second frame and use likes
