IMO, it doesn't make sense to involve the State by making your girlfriend your wife.

And yes, in some countries, e.g. Canada, you are financially liable without marriage if you live with your girlfriend, but that's not the case in most places.

When you involve the State, you have 0 upside and maximum downside.

But choosing your partner is probably the most important life decision you will ever make.
