Didn't Christ say to follow him?

Amen!

There is an impact to lifestyle, of course. But that impact is in light of the message, which is primary. Because we cannot, by a lifestyle, make ourselves acceptable to God. The message is "Nothing in my hand I bring / Simply to thy cross I cling/ Naked, come to thee for dress / Helpless, look to thee for grace / Foul, I to the Fountain fly / Wash me, Saviour, or I die." [Rock of Ages](https://opc.org/hymn.html?hymn_id=616)

E.g., Christ never repented (never had to), yet repentance is the lifeblood of the Christian life.

Please consider ch. 4 of Machen's excellent [Christianity and Liberalism](https://www.monergism.com/thethreshold/sdg/machen/ChristianityandLiberalismJGreshamMachen.pdf)...
