Anyone know if I can expand the storage on my StartOS server (running on an old x86 machine) by plugging in a USB SSD?
I've underestimated the size of Bitcoin Core and not left much wiggle room for my Nextcloud 😂

USB will work, but might be slow depending on the generation of USB. Hopefully it's not *so* old. You want USB 2.0 or newer.
The main risk with external USB drive on servers is accidental disconnection.
Workarounds:
• duct tape! (the universal solution!)
• some motherboards actually have USB ports right on the internal part of the board. Stick it there.
The last issue with external drives on servers is auto-mounting. You'll want to make sure the disk mounts automatically after a reboot, especially if you are setting up automated backups. Depending on the distro it might be easy or difficult.
Thank you 🙏 I believe there's 3.0 or 3.1 ports on there (blue coloured ports)
GitHubs saying StartOS is based on Debian. I'll give it a go hopefully it automounts but I'll now know what to search how to do if it doesn't.
i ideally would like to run a raid with 3 4tb drives…
