Lex vs CIA agent "retired"

Where the agent fucked up - his thumb

He only did a similar thing in one other podcast in view of the camera. It didn't last the entire interview and wasn't as intense. There are podcasts where his hands are out of view or on his legs not moving as to not allow for any body language to be read. However, it begs the question, why would he act differently on Lex's podcast.

What I know:

Grabbing one's thumb is a self-soothing behavior often employed to manage anxiety and stay grounded in the present moment. This action provides comfort and security, evoking a sense of calmness and relaxation. By focusing on the physical sensation of holding the thumb, individuals can redirect their attention away from future concerns or "far" thoughts, alleviating anxiety and promoting a sense of stability. This self-soothing technique also activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping to regulate emotions and reduce physiological arousal associated with anxiety.

This is a behavior that individuals may engage in to avoid focusing on the distant or far aspects and instead redirect their attention to the immediate or near surroundings. This behavior can serve as a grounding mechanism to stay present and avoid getting overwhelmed by long-term goals or anxieties.

By physically grabbing their thumb, individuals create a sensory focus on something close and tangible, diverting their attention away from the far or future-oriented thoughts.

In the context of near-far logic, you want to consider the immediate and long term ramifications, good or bad, or both. I believe that grabbing the thumb can also be seen as a near-far behavior. It involves utilizing a physical action related to the near (thumb) to avoid mentally dwelling on the far (distant thoughts or future concerns). By engaging in this behavior, individuals attempt to ground themselves in the present, minimizing the cognitive load associated with future-oriented thinking. Conversely, I also believe that zoning out or looking off into the distance, literally or even just mentally/figuratively, is a "far" behavior in accordance to the theory of near-far behavior during near-far logic. By looking off into the distance or mentally wandering you are going far in your mind to avoid the present.

These things are done not only to disconnect from situations, but also to avoid making mistakes in the near which will result in consequences in the far, so to speak.

Furthermore, later on the agent admitted to having anxiety, especially when he goes to meet or bump into a target. He told lex that there is a dossier on him, he has said this to other people (at least one). All agents get a dossier on anyone they meet in the field.

*Near-far behavior is solely my terminology, it is fundamentally different from near-far logic but it happens during the time of assessing the logic.

When a spy uses a fake backstory, it's usually intertwined with truth. This makes it easier to manage. If you're being a spokesperson and trying to recruit and do a little PR work, just tell everyone you're retired. Easy.

Interesting take. Which episode?

This is just one of the moments where he is rubbing his thumb as if to soothe himself. It's been a while since I watched it, but I remember him doing it often enough to make me go watch his body language in dozens of other videos.

Oh yea I remember this episode. This guy seemed uncomfortable to say anything negative about the different agencies. Seems possible he could still be working.

I saw he was recently on the Shawn Ryan Show but haven’t watched it yet.

One place where lex went wrong.

His suspicious obsession with intelligence agencies.

One does not simply ask for them to approach you in a direct professional manner. They don't do that. You will never have an agent first initiate contact by simply walking up and saying: Hi there, I'm with the CIA, would you mind having a chat?

It begs the question, why does he keep asking this? Followed by, why would he want this?

He's excited about the idea of there being multiple Russian agents inside of America. When talking to an alleged ex KGB agent, his demeanour had raised a few red flags.

He says quote "I have nothing to hide" while touting the brilliance of Orwell with his book 1984

But the main character actually had things to hide while screaming that he did not... So.... Ummm. 🧐

While talking to said KGB agent they came to the issue of the fall of the Soviet Union... Whilst Lex was putting himself in Putin's shoes he said: "it was like never again"... His face looked like he actually believed it. So that raised a few questions.

The image of the displayed anger on his face accompanied by those words are burned in my retinas for all eternity. (lol) But seriously, that really stuck out.

His family is brilliant... However, there was an open admission of his father and grandfather lending a helping hand to the KGB in the past.

At the time of his departure from Russia, Russia was already sending agents out to other countries, not just because of the collapse but also that.

----------------

Here's one example for the approximate time:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_espionage_in_the_United_States

" After the transition from the Soviet Union to the Russian Federation, new discoveries were made about Soviet-era espionage. The Venona project, declassified in 1995 by the Moynihan Commission, contained extensive evidence of the activities of Soviet spy networks in America,[10] as did the Mitrokhin Archive revealed from 1992-1999.[11]"

---------------

Lex is working in fields that Putin has always been interested in. I have compared Lex to a Putin nocturnal emission or wet dream. The KGB would find Lex to be immensely valuable.

There are times where Lex makes subtle hints that Western culture may be failing, or at least he seems to be planting the seeds. (Oh but all the bananas you can eat - that in itself should say that the "eastern" countries are failing. Nvm that Russia is closer to being West than east from a perspective... If you go far enough west, you'll be in the east... I always found it weird, but that's neither here nor there.)

Lex Luther?

Nah, he's not that evil. Although, I have considered giving him that code name or nick... (However you want to phrase it)

Fridman? Doesn’t he host a podcast?

Yeah I think so
