Impersonators are popping up on nostr. And it is even easier for them than on twitter. They can easily create 1:1 profile copy with the same icon, banner, posts, reposts.. Number of followers and followed can be easily gamed. Even npub can be vanity generated to have the same beginning and end.

What would help and what can't be easily gamed is to see "followed by these people you follow" in user profiles.

Similarly how twitter does:

What do you mean? How will it help me recognize that someone is impersonator (not of me but some famous account commenting under some note)

This is totally an issue, the solutions I can think of are Reputation and Proof of wealth (proof you own some bitcoin).

I think also there is a nip for pow on each post but that won't be that useful will it?

What I usually do is ask 'impersonator' to zap me certain amount to prove they are who they claim to be.

I never hear back from them again, but I guess they keep fishing in shallow waters...
