I'm going to take some crap for this on here from #Bitcoin maxis, I can tell already. But here is my attempt at responding to the recent #Monero Leaks report where it looks at "leaks", "attacks", and "case studies". I appreciate the aggregation of points. Many of the critiques are valid in specific contexts, but the conclusion is heavily shaped by the authors bias and omits VERY critical nuance. I will admit that I am not somehow immune to bias myself, but this is a particular fight that I am "pro" both sides for very specific and different reasons. I just hate the obnoxious, unnecessary bullying.

Privacy is a spectrum. Don't let maxi ideology obscure the evidence on either side.

appreciate the effort here.

its would be nice to do a line-by-line refutation since nostr:npub1yxp7j36cfqws7yj0hkfu2mx25308u4zua6ud22zglxp98ayhh96s8c399s went through all the trouble of writing all that down.

and he's not wrong that self-custodial LN solves several of moneros problems.

but the devil in the details....

I find that Super is very selective in how he goes about his arguments and isn't very helpful in inter btc/xmr dialogs. Great resource for L2 options and technical know how, but borders on intentionally misleading when comparing btc and xmr as if they are functionally equivalent systems. I would push it off as expertise ignorance, but he isn't ignorant or stupid. It's a subtle but pervasive straw manning of the arguments.

Most Lightning privacy is theoretical unless you’re running a full node over Tor with custom peer management and manual channel configs. If you want usable privacy now, Monero is the better option.

Being a non monero user, I am not anti it. I believe whole heartedly in the potential of btc. I am also very privacy aware. As you refer say, privacy is a spectrum. Use case and threat level is akin to (I apologise for this in advance) TA and risk management.

I use lightning. I use my own node, over tor. This is reasonably private for my needs. Again, if some determined, clever individual was to disect my transactions, there is a possibility of tracing me. It is small. The channel opening tx, less so but if that isn't closed...

What I just said is also possibly true of Monero. I'm not qualified to argue the case against it, so monero Maxi's, don't try to blow me out of the water. All I will say is someone, some day, may crack it.

I am not a fan, at all, of shitcoin. Do I consider Monero a shitcoin? On the surface, yes. In depth, I see a use case. An oxymoron but that isn't the first time someone has called me that.

Props for at least trying to do something about your privacy. 🤙
