People don’t want to touch script because its hard to evaluate how badly a change with affect the system. Rusty constructed an algorithm for evaluating explicit costs for all the opcodes, so any damage caused by new opcodes are limited and can be evaluated in a rigourous way. nostr:note1y2yxrdtpw4uvame7vrwk8qkgldvlcp2ml0s9zpjt5uqzmudf3ccs3g23t0

what difference will this make in practice? bitvm is already being developed with script anyway

It could safely make bitcoin super powerful in a safe way without hacks.

I can't think of anything powerful that can be done with script, basically everything you can do with script are variants of multisigs and HTLCs

but what do we really need? scaling. decentralized bridges to other systems where we can transact and then bring the sats back to Bitcoin.

for anyone who doesn’t know rusty put together the lightning spec and built core-lightning, the best lightning node software. He is a linux kernel dev (made iptables, etc). He’s one of the best engineers bitcoin has.

the world runs because of guys like that.

So cool! Going down this rabbit hole tonight 🔥
