Don't sleep on syncthing. Finicky to set up, but then invaluable.

sycthing... with nextcloud, or is that redundant?

Kind of different purposes, but it would probably be redundant if you're using NextCloud as a backup.

true, each additional machine is a backup ... but also, perhaps increases attack surface

hm

It's effectively peer-to-peer file sync (backup if you use it that way, which I do). Multiple machines can, say, have Documents, Photos, Downloads folders constantly sync'd, effortlessly in the background.

I like the sound of it

ya its great, it can be scary as one might not be too used to have mirrored folders with no fallback so jist be careful if you are a new user...start simple and dont go crazy or youll end up deleting shit in every place you have it by accident if you dont know what you are doing.

oh, good tip, ty!

🤙 its an experience ive had, luckily with nothing important.

Syncthing is great. We have 4 devices syncing. Two-way/multi sync can be a challenge, but once configured, it works great.

We often create manual backups outside of the main sync folder, just in case.

By the way, I heard that they are discontinuing the support for the android app:

I've been using this all along for Android. It will be continuing development.

I genuinely don't know why I was so hesitant to use it at first, but now I can't live without it.

Maybe because the setup feels so... odd. But once I figure out the basics, I can't imagine going without it.

I have it automatically backing up all my writing code projects, photos, memes, music, important files. It's great.

Memes 🔥

An incredible tool. I use it to sync between phone and PC. Having immediately updated shared folders is a game changer. Take picture, edit on PC, and the edit is already on my phone. I love it 😎👌

In addition to Syncthing, we also use LocalSend for ad-hoc share. It supports files, folders, clipboard, etc.

been using it for years. easily one of the best open source apps

I love syncthing as well. It’s an awesome tool.
