Soil Science is indeed fascinating. Touched upon it during my Biology degree way back in the 90s - one interesting factoid was/is how golf course management results in some of the least biodiverse soils out there.

This makes complete sense to me. The grass at a golf course seems almost fake and extremely compact. It’s cut before it has the opportunity to generate any real nutrients and so it’s not really having the chance to recharge and filter out pollutants and groundwater reserves.
