Is it true that the removed a lot of dams, which were meant to protect such massive floods, in the last couple of years? Or is this mostly fake news?

That'd be really good to know.
Humanity apparently needs to learn to make all their life support systems (flood protection, electric grids, watter supply, ...) actually top priority.
Such things shouldn't be designed to just resist the every 50 years weather events. But rather 100 years or more.
