Is Mars more likely to be hit with an asteroid because it is further out in the solar system, less likely because it is smaller; what about moons(?) Does a newly colonized planet with mutated humans qualify as backing up the human race or extending the light of consciousness or whatever, or is that a marketing scheme(?)

We are made to expand. Reaching mars and colonizing it would be a great endeavor that would put war aside. We like to fight, let's fight over abilities and engineering
It would not put war aside; no way. How many years has there been an international effort regarding space exploration? How come all of the richest men live in the united states of america and have government contracts?

I do like rich mankind when they collaborate to try to save the Earth. Seems smart. I think the nature of that beast is they fall into the corporate trap and then are forced to make decisions by the totally washed, overly groomed, narcissistic human shark population.
After we get rid of organized psychopath, the regular population remains made of good people. High achievement are good because they unleash the will to find solutions and those solutions then can be applied to other uses. Most of the tech we have home today comes from war research or landing on the moon. Is it useful? Yes growing is useful, we do not live to have a drink at the bar and socializing.
I didnt say anyone does. Tolerance of other types who do believe in dont do harm seems important.

I don't have the complete solution to this; i highly doubt any evolved organism anywhere (light years away or otherwise) does. Sex is fun. Socialization can happen without a higher purpose.
Having children because religious and cultural expectations has always seemed wrong. Maybe because i have been mind controlled since birth.
