I stand corrected, I always thought zakat was a form of taxes but I have now realized that value taken from hard working people for profit by the state is the inherently haram. Zakat comes from long term savings and they go directly to the ones in need.

You live to learn.

I talk about this in my book! Zakat is better conceived of as an act of "financial worship" rather than just a tax 👇

There is no need for a fight between capitalism and communism. Islam solved that issue 14 centuries ago.

Yep! We just have a hard time expressing our Islamic praxis of economics because fiat money makes that impossible to do!

Interesting.,. Ok I gonna need to get your book soon! 😊

I learned it this way: It's like a kind of debt that you're obligated to pay. Allah is the only provider. And he's given you a portion of what should go to the poor, as a test to see if you'll give it back. So the poor have a right to it, it's not a voluntary donation. And if you're even one payment behind or one dollar short and you die in that state, you've got a serious problem.

That’s an interesting perspective. I like that

This leads us to the question: what is the optimal or preferred type of government/state we need?

There is no name for it.

Monarchy or Anarchy.

I would say a limited government, similar to the model of the Prophet (pbuh) and the four Caliphs. I don’t think most people would accept monarchy, and full anarchy doesn’t seem practical either, since such couldn’t defend themselves against external organized states.

I listened to saifedeen’s opinion on monarchy and it made some sense. The state and its constituents should have a ying/yang relationship where a balance should be struck and incentives polarized.

I listened too but I don’t know how to start a new monarchy in 2025.

A state with limited reach.

Understanding how Zakat works is a redpill
