Needed this. Ty. Learning
there are a few others that are doing both relay info and auth that are asking for it, but it's a pretty thin field, at the end of this run right now i fully expect less than 50 relays that are both nip-11 and nip-42 compliant
and not one of them so far has asked for auth, without actually requiring it to actually use the relay, i am authing with my key and if i'm not a customer, i get no data
so this myth that many of the rockstar devs have about auth "doxxing yourself" are completely inflating the situation
nobody thinks of that as a way to gather intelligence, amazing, but true.
yes, better to have no auth required and just count the number of times you get npubs in the requests
LIKE I HAVE BEEN SAYING
the number of relays on people's lists that are invalid, don't resolve, have expired or wrong TLS certs, is amazing, truly
and then of those that remain, almost none actually send out a valid nip-11 relay information document
i have written this spider code now so that as it finds invalid, malformed, non resolving etc relay addresses, it deletes them from the list, after quite an extensive process of sanitizing these addresses
the number of relays that actually exist is melting away in front of my eyes, i'm wondering how many wil be left by the time it's finished iterating the 2000 or so
its incredible, when i open gossip, watching it use my entire set of cpu cores and fans to maximim, and all its doing is attempting to connect to long gone insane relays.. what a fucking mess. someone should build a relay list disrespector bot. 😂
i try 😁🎁
interesting stats about the nip11.. no wonder clients hate relays if most dont even bother setting anything useful in those fields.
yeah, i thought the nip-42 situation was bad but clearly this is downstream from the nip-11 situation
it's how the relays are coded too - #realy has a set of default values that appear according to configuration... khatru sorta had some beginnings of this kind of thing iirc, but not fully fleshed out
