When I first learned of the “game-key card” concept with the Switch 2 I thought it was a means to avoid needing to be connected to the internet to play your digital game on multiple switch systems. It seems more like an alternative to paying for the higher price (full game on cart) versions. #gamer #gaming #videogames #vidyagames #damusgaming

I don't understand why anyone would buy the key-card versions. Who do they appeal to? Seems like the worst of both worlds.

I wouldn’t be shocked if this was in response to the criticism that publishers got for offering a physical case but inside only offered a download code. At least you get “something” out of a game-key cart. 🤷‍♂️

Yeah good point. I suppose these key-cards cases are more easily identifiable versus the old download-in-a-box notice that are on the current Switch cases. That and maybe the key-card allows for sharing?

So far it seems the game key carts are shareable and resellable. No word if there is a limit on how many times the cart can be used though. It’s possible a secondary market could develop over these types of games though the fact still remains no game data is actually on the cart. Great for wanting a game for a “possible” cheaper price but bad for preservation since no actual game data is on the card itself.
