Agreed - and my issue is that I do not have ANYTHING memorized...I use steel plates in a couple locations and 1 multi-sig (which also uses steel plates for my part).
For #3, I have #2...as in 2nd Amendment. For #5...like I've said in other posts, I hope we have a 4-12 year runway before that could even remotely become a possibility. But I was definitely fretting it more urgently up to 11/5.
My problem is I have not told my wife or kids about my stash… and don’t plan too.
I may make everyone else’s coins more valuable when I die.
My theory is everyone buys coins at the price they deserve and that goes for your wife and kids.

I’ve been in btc since 2012 I initially lost my shirt on Mt Gox. Then I started rebuilding from nothing.
I never told my wife about Mt Gox or the fact that I put a lot of money in there..
I was then shell shocked for many years, but started stacking again. Slowly.
After that experience, I took the ‘not your keys not your coins’ phrase very seriously .
i’m not exactly sure what would have happened had I told my wife, but my suspicion is that if I had told my wife that I had any, we would’ve spent it.
She’s unclear where we’re at financially, but we are retiring this year. But not really just moving to a small off grid Homestead because since the pandemic she’s been watching too many homesteading videos and wants to give it a try so I’m willing to go for that.
I will sell up to 4% of my stack each year depending on price hopefully less. I suspect there will be good years and bad years…. But the 4%rule should keep me retired…
I don't wife or kids yet, but I am sure the woman that will be my wife will know about my bitcoin journey, maybe not precisely my stack amount, but very likely even that. I plan a way so in case of my death she will have all the info and knowledge she'll need to recover my sats.
For sure will teach my kids about bitcoin, but will never tell them the amount I stacked, for sure. But they'll learn about it as soon as they can and I will make sure they will stack since young in a way or another 😁
I am in it since last cycle and have a long way to retire thanks to it, but here I am stacking what I can when I can, and keeping safe my precious sats until the day I will spend them to have time with my wolife and kids, and then left the rest to them.

I can't imagine what it has been, and even after I will have done 3+ cycles still will be different, as people like you did encounter so much shit and pessimism and fuds etc etc.. we are lucky to live in an easier environment in a certain sense, but with different piint of attacks we should be aware... anyway, that's why you all deserve the price you get your sats at. Oppfh... That has me thinking for sure. Maybe make them the family safe words? Then everyone is very well versed in them? Otherwise everything else is physical and can be "stolen".
Interesting idea on the family safe words...and government/$5 wrench attacks do have a way of short-circuiting carefully laid out estate planning!

1. Here's a test for your self custody: Tell your next of kin to retrieve your coins as if you had died. They are only allowed to use the info they have now. No new note or instructions allowed- if you died today they wouldn’t have those instructions either. See how the test works.
2: Put your phone down and pretend that it, your PC and every single thing in your home / office is destroyed. Now retrieve your coins. Remember - no use of your phone or anything from your home - no

3. Stop what you are doing & assume 2 or more armed attackers are now at your main premises. Assume they have disabled means for help & assume they will find a safe if you have one. If they threaten violence against you how exactly do you deal with this? What can they get?
4. Assume that over a period of 3 weeks you suffer from illness, amnesia, dementia or extreme trauma which causes you to forget everything about your current setup. How do you or your loved ones /
living assistants rebuild and understand your storage system?
5. You speak “misinformation”, are a political enemy or are accused of a crime. The government gets a search warrant for your office, home, bank & safe deposit box. Assume they will find any 12 or 24 word pass phrase or private key on the premises. Can an agent sweep it?
6. There is extreme political turmoil in your country and you have 24 hours to pack your bags & move to another country. Assume banks/ safe deposit locations are closed. You won’t be able to return to your country. Can you bring your coins and access them in a new country?
