I would start giving him smaller portions.

Unfortunately, my dad has a cat with this problem, too.

He has hand fed this cat since kittenhood to mitigate the problem 😭

I think a better solution would be to close the cat in a room with an easy to clean floor until a little while after his meal time. Then even if he throws up, you can clean it and then everyone goes about their day.

But he’s never tried it my way.
