I’ve actually read Gnostic literature and never felt this was the message. But many people understand it this way, so I can see how it can be a trap.

It depends on how deeper you go. It's a lot like peeling an onion, successive layers contradict themselves.

True, and there’s no “the Gnosticism”, it’s just an umbrella term for various teachings found in many sources which can contradict each other.

There are no two people who read the same book. There are no two people who have the same vision. It's always slightly shifted because we are different observers. Also, we rarely hang on at the same level of the ladder, hence the apparent contradictions.
