A gigantic mistake was made a few years ago letting Antifa, CHAZ, etc do what they wanted, night after night after night. It’s not the only factor, but the immediate reaction should have been to encircle the streets they occupied round up or shoot them if necessary, and say in so many words “You thought you could just do this and nothing would happen? You’re fucking done.”

Not the only factor, like I said, but their version of “You can just do things” grew in that soil.
