Cracked the hive open today to see how the ladies were doing. I fear I was a little late. No sign of a queen. No eggs, or larva.

Numbers looked good though. Maybe there she was in there and hasn’t started laying. Idk.

Those young queens can be pretty slender and fake you out like a worker. Check it again soon.

Appreciate that! This was a wintered colony, and I was expecting to see the marked queen from last year. Maybe she didn’t make it and there is a virgin queen.

I’ll check it again soon.

They can be so elusive even when marked. Hope she’s there. Have you seen any queen cells, swarm cells?

I didn’t see any swarm cells either. Starting to think she may still be in there. Otherwise they’d leave?

how quick do they generally start? is blending another small colony make sense?

I’d say with the mild winter we had she should be laying eggs by now.

Gonna keep an eye on them for a little longer.

I’ve a got a backup plan with overnighting a queen to keep the hive together.

Appreciate the work bee keepers do for this planet.

Thanks man!

I think she’ll be in there somewhere. Sounds like it’s early days. Keep checking

Appreciate it! I hoping so!

Are they bringing in pollen at the entrance?
