Welp… oops I guess? #nostr 😅

It is, they are sorta just having a fight about it 😂, basically in its intended form, it is censorship resistant and decentralized, it's only when big companies come in and have control over a large number of users.

For example, if you sign up with ZBD social, it's neither Decentralized or Censorship resistant because ZBD owns your Ncec (you can't even see it) you sign up with a centralized account ( like Google) and then all of your media is uploaded to their servers so it's basically no different from FB, Tiktok, or X that way.

Right. I keep wondering if the next step is to incentivize relay-starters somehow. I know some folks are already doing subscription models but maybe there are other ways to make monetization more accessible to them. Just thinking out loud

If they are big enough, they can get a grant from Odell's Opensats but that's kinda what people are trying to avoid is big relays, at the same time how do you incentivize all the relay owners? There's a lot.

Interesting 🤔 well I was just thinking about how the quality of replies is so much better here because it’s the only place I know of where people can tip/zap replies. What if we could zap relays directly. Like maybe a relay sends out a report or something as a note and then we can zap them directly? Idk

I like this idea, in amethyst (I think Damus too but you'd have to ask nostr:npub1xtscya34g58tk0z605fvr788k263gsu6cy9x0mhnm87echrgufzsevkk5s ) you can at least see who owns the relay in amethyst then click the profile and zap that person directly, but I mean, how many people are actually going to remember to do that. Amethyst has started having a zap notification to zap devs who worked on the current version, Victor could probably make one that zaps your relay operators too. That would be cool.

Right I think if it popped up onto your feed as a report like “we passed x number of notes this week” then people would be more likely to say: oh neat! Good work! You know?

Yeah, makes sense to me.

I've seen some mentions of clients considering integrating relays. This would be a really good step. If these integrated relays could then broadcast themselves as available, it could solve a lot of problems concerning decentralization and censorship, but it has challenges like dialling down network noise.

Sometimes our CEO forgets to take his meds.

😂

most cases

decentralization is a spectrum

It's decentralized in theory, and in practice too with a handful of clients. It's just that some clients (most of the big popular clients actually) aren't doing it right yet and so fiatjaf and others are trying to light a fire under their ass about it.
