Had Zelensky’s predecessor stayed in power (even if a significant portion of the population didn’t want that) and they didn’t push for NATO membership, would the massive destruction and death toll been avoided? This doesn’t make Trump right (much of what he said is false) but perhaps would have led to a relatively better outcome.
