It does not "delete the private key off the network" You cant delete a private key. You can reset it by resetting your profile event.

When I did it, I was thinking it would simply remove my account from the Damus app...

I did it by accident thinking I was deleting an old account because the Damus app sometimes loads old profile info for some reason
