Ours was second(but likely 4th or 5th)hand from my cousin. Check garage sales and thrift stores. See if you guys have a kid to kid. Its a secondhand store for kid stuff and they dont take anything thats been recalled. As long as the slats aren't a size where a bitty could get body parts stuck, you're good. Get sleepsacks or nightgowns or footie pjs and dont use a ton of blankets or stuffies. My first 2 kids slept in the crib both of my brothers used. We used a Moses basket until he started moving more because its easier to keep them in a bassinet or something in your room for the first couple months.
