You know whatβs really sad.. in the last couple years the iPhone cameras have advanced sooooo much DSLRβs are struggling, take for example a those that came out 5-8 years ago.. even with some high end lenses you might still struggle
will they be obsolete in the next 10-15 years ? Or will they still serve their purpose ?
My iPhone 15 Pro Max already takes much better pictures than my Nikon D5800, except in very narrow use cases, so yes I know exactly what you mean and agree itβs weird/sad in a way.
On the other hand Iβve managed to catch pictures I never wouldβve because I didnβt always have my DSLR.
The convenience of having that capable of a camera on the phone is the reason why I think social media n content creators are such a huge market right now

It's the main use case among professional and semi-professional photographers.
A Canon 1Dx, for example, is one of only a few DSLRs that can provide you with the closest to medium format results.
The trick is not to compare the "quality" of photos but how clear/present the details are. And for that to happen, you need to blow up your photos to BIG dimensions.
In order to get better details, no bigger factor is involved than light. Mobile phones have such tiny lenses that there is not enough light to pass through them.
It's more of a physics problem than a tech problem.
Youβre really saying the main use case for these cameras is for their photos to be on billboards ?
I'm saying if you need a certain level of detail in your photographs, there's no other choice (at least for now) than a non-mobile camera.

IMO, traditional/non-phone cameras will soon become a choice for those wanting a greater challenge or for their nostalgic valueβnot unlike driving a vintage car without power steering.
I give them 5 years, tops, before theyβre pulled from the shelves.
I was being nice with 10-15 years but I canβt but agree 10000% with you, recently my friends purchased an old Sony camcorder from the 90s simply because of the nostalgic aesthetic they can bring to their music videos lol
Prob hang on at high end til better materials for sensors developed. Meanwhile the ai jiggery Pokery will make photo plebs look good.

If you have an IPhone 15 Max Pro which I think you do youβre better off taking pictures with it, unless youβre planning on spending over 1k or 2k on a camera that will most likely not give you the desired results you want bc it has so many settings n things to adjust that the iPhone will do automatically for you
