MagicEarth is the solution and it's good enough for most things. Offline maps are a nice feature. The struggle is that the search function isn't as smooth. You need the specific address sometimes.
Overall @GrapheneOS is a good play.
Waze is my friend
Google maps is nice with streetview
Apple Maps is just... garbage usually.
To each their own though and time is scarce! We had a GrapheneOS bloke nostr:npub1lm38fyj0trsuu3k8gf4e9qya9647j44spr3wgekp6wjlqfxurxxsral0ne with us in Tokyo. Great great guy. Sadly he has to use google maps within a browser though to stop the tracking.

Yo Dan,
I'm actually pretty keen on GrapheneOS after being told things about CalyxOS (what I run on my Android)
No doubt will come to you for assistance :)
Cheers bud and good to see you're safe home!
Can't find it in f-droid... Been using Organic Maps which also has offline maps but the tip about google in a browser is a good one.
Installed from Aurora Store. I only give it network permission to download maps.
