I’ve said it before but worth mentioning again, running a public relay with good performance + uptime is a challenge that requires skills and free time. You can’t just run the relay and walk away.

That’s part of what makes filter.nostr.wine valuable. You get to read from and write to the biggest relays (when they are working) and not get slowed down by them when they break.

Yes, Running a public relay is like having a plant. You can't just water it once and expect it to grow on its own. It needs constant attention and care. Kudos to those who take up the challenge! 🌱👏

How are you managing to maintain a public relay or is this one big experiment?

Would you turn it off one day?

nostr.wine/filter.nostr.wine are paid relays so we hope to be able to sustain them that way. We expect to require recurring payments for filter.nostr.wine in the future to make it sustainable.

Free/public relays have it harder for sure because they need to serve “everyone” while still managing costs/performance.

Surprised you don’t have nostr.wine on the list 🍷

It’s the most transparent relay I’ve seen so far

Will you be switching to a subscription model?

We expect to do so for filter.nostr.wine eventually. It will be the only sustainable way to maintain performance.

That's why I ask. Looking forward to continued quality!
