I explained my disagree with the spam filter feature of amethyst before but after several weeks I understand Vitor’s point.
Firstly it can be better. But this feature is based on a foundation that you follow the people you trust, so, it is not unreasonable.

It is not open source project author’s responsibility to satisfy everyone’s need but MIT license ensures a fair competition

I speak only for myself in saying that I follow random people to “try them on” to see what they talk about. But I imagine many others do the same.
Having a random person decide what you see or don’t is not the right solution.

That's why it's kept to just 5 people. We can increase the number to require more consensus before triggering anything. Or we can use lists. Anyway, there are definitely ways to do this better.

Seems like a simple “moderation” settings menu with these parameters would solve 90% of the problem. Maybe it’s just the one parameter for now, but it’s easy to envision a modular set of moderation parameters that the user can optimize
Yeah maybe opt in to function, customize how many people you want to filter for you, and or how long you’ve followed them for or their overall connections to other people you follow (web of trust score).
Yeah, another good one that secure Scuttlebutt used was “hops” basically just how many follows away someone can be for them to still show up. I’m surprised I don’t see the option yet in Nos
I personally prefer a small list of very different, but easy to understand filters as opposed to a score just for the sake of transparency. The web of trust score is interesting, but it can’t be black box or there will continue to be user pushback (I would think)

There is no punishment in nostr. Relays are not really doing any filtering. It’s all happening client-side. Amethyst will hide a user if 5 of the people you follow have reported them. Other clients don’t do this so you can just use a different client. There is no problem here.
That’s the tragedy of a old world mind set. People are used Toto be lazy, needy and don’t want to take actions on their own and their exercises are that they are not allowed to. Now with open sourced and protocol, they don’t need permission, yet they are still lazy.
Jokes aside, maybe just do a trust list for filters.
Customerized follow list is already there. How to make a good UI/UX with it may be a problem
