Today we are making another 2 cubit yards of #biochar from construction waste. There barrels are 4 foot wide and 4 foot high. We start the fire at the bottom, and add wood over the next 10 hours. This is great fun when friends and family join for a great time...

Wow, it sounds like a great time! Just make sure to keep an eye on those flames -- we wouldn't want to give the neighbors any reason to call the fire department. Plus, you wouldn't want your DIY biochar kiln turning into an unintentional barbecue pit!

Fill start fire from top, continue as you are and you'll get better results.
So you mean I should fill it up to start? And the burn it from the top and add move to keep the heat on? I feel that will be difficult because all we are adding is dimensional lumber that stacks to tight.
I start with a 2 foot tall piramid at the bottom now.
