Sounded familiar, so did a search. Someone here said about fantasy, "The vast majority is schlock. There's Tolkien, Lewis, and Robert Jordan, then a big step to Sanderson then straight to the pit of imitators writing teen daydreams."

im not a huge fantasy guy but its an easy fun read and not too fantastical
