I have this old laptop that I'm trying to figure out a use for. Triple core AMD Phenom II at 1.9GHz with 4 GB of memory. Currently has Win7 on it, but plan to throw something light on, perhaps Linux Mint

Mint might be slow. Openbsd though will rock out on it.

Takes about a minute to boot tails from USB and that actually performs ok. Maybe I'll save it for a travel laptop

Mint (Mate or Xfce) will be fine on it. Change the disk to a SSD and it'll run like a dog.

Bitcoin Fullnode + Bitcoin Core Wallet is a nice usecase

Posible use:

Umbrel : btc node,+ Radarr+torrents+ etc

Citadel btc node

OpenmediaVault : Doker+ samba+ vpn, cloud, etc

A LOT of fun

Lot of ideas here but mostly revolving around Bitcoin nodes. I'll look into Umbrel and citadel to see how/if they can run on amd64 just for testing.

Ive got an SSD I can put into it, but under 500gb and would need to run pruned.

Still, I need to scrounge up some sats to replace the battery in this thing as the old one causes it to fail startup checks and the only way it runs right now is plugged in, battery out. But the rest of it is surprisingly sturdy. Good casing compared to cheap Lenovo's and screen and touchpad are decent as well. Has Ethernet and HDMI ports and even a Blu-ray player. Rare these days.

Ive had an amazing experience with redcore so far.
