Need a video of you sharpening that beast. 😄

its hand made, so super thin and light. sharpening is just a hand stone.

What kind of blade did you use?

for the blackberries?

a 16 inch bush blade.

way thicker.

i got it from Scythe Supply in Maine.

These are way more in the price range I was looking for. Last one I saw was like 375, thank you so much

I did a bit of scything many moons ago when clearing some land as part of a conservation/land management project - thoroughly enjoyed it!

Love this. 👍🏼

The last thing you see before heading to afterlife 👀

Is it common to use those still? Maybe for wheat? wtf do you do with that thing?

the snath (the wooden part) was fitted to my body.

i have two blades.

a long thin blade which i use for mowing. and a short stout blade for clearing brush.

the entire area in the photo used to be covered in blackberries. I used the bush blade over a period of 3 years to kill them. if you cut blackberries in early spring, and fall, they die off.

mowing with a long blade is faster that with a gas mower. your cuts are about 7 feet wide. its more about finesse than brute force. no gas or machinery needed.

Hope you had good reason to kill the blackberries, they're so good haha.

Incredible that it's faster than a gas mower. I suspected a skilled user might just prefer it for traditions sake, but concede it's a bit slower or maybe not as close to the ground a cut.

Cool. Another year around here and I'll be a homesteader

Nice

I can't get the rhythm down, but I also think it's because it's backward for me...

I'm shocked every time by how efficient it is.

yeah its hard to explain to people. i would chose this over a gas mower.

Absolutely! We have the scythe and a reel mower. The reel mower is fun as long as the blades are sharp and there are no sticks, so a very small portion of our yard is mowable with it.

It's sort of a rocking/shuffle/twisty motion.
