Is there a NIP or something that explains how private and public keys should be encoded? It looks like Damus supports a format other than just a raw hex key.

damus uses base64 to encode the keys. you can convert from damus type to hex using damus.io/key

base64 is more based than base63

,s/base64/bech32/g

Ah ok. Thanks! Are the nsec/npub prefixes part of that as well?

yeah, that’s the human readable part
