Why are you so hung up on a âjob.â Having a job, the job search, interviews, the whole thing makes me feel bad for you. You have been handed a wonderful opportunity. This is your chance to break out from the labor force and start controlling your own destiny.
What skills do you have? I bet you could go out and get paid right away by someone who needs your skills for a few hours or a few days. The best part is that you are going to charge 4x-5x of what you were making getting paid by someone else.
At least start a side hustle while youâre looking for a job and see how things work out. Making money without restrictions and being in control of your own life feels wonderful.
I would be far more amenable to the situation if it wasn't a crisis of children and insurance
Yes, a lot of the advice, though well meaning, ignores the immediate situation, outgoings, etc. One might be facing homelessness, or ongoing costs (children, food insurance etc) and itâs this pressure and environment that makes experimenting with a new start rather risky or almost impossible, especially if your mind is not in the right place or life is currently unstable. It might mean taking on something in the short term while developing the side hustle. Good luck, keep positive, stay focused/active!

Thatâs exactly how I got out of the employment trap. I worked in real estate and when the mortgage crisis of 2009 hit not only could I not find a job in my field but unemployment in my area was over 10% and I couldnât even get a job at McDonaldâs.
We were food, insecure, and I had no choice but to figure out some way to make money so I could keep a roof over my kids head and they could eat.
The economy is far worse than what we are being told. Please donât let yourself get into the same position I let myself get into. Itâs a lot easier to do a little something on the side while youâre looking for a job then it is to start with nothing when youâre really in need.
