Okay, can you sign-in with a browser extension?

Once you sign-in, there's a wheel on the top-right corner you can click and then scroll down a bit and you can see the nip-05 text.

I'm getting the impression this stuff is meant to serve a particular type of person who isn't me, because it never makes any sense. Lol

If it isn't made for an average user then I'll stop testing the process when you post about it. There's a lot of missing context for me that makes me think it isn't for me. Or maybe that's relevant data if this is meant for average Nostr users.

It's very relevant! It's a new feature, so the two of us might be the first two giving any feedback. I just stumbled upon it, by accident, about an hour ago, and tried it out.

Ah. Well, my opinion so far is that this looks like something made for someone really entrenched in Nostr development or the person who made it. I doubt anyone else would get it without digging into a whole world of things that only the aforementioned would care about. I have a heavy tech background, a CS degree, etc and it would take me a while to figure out what is even going on here. The use of terms like NIP-05 and NIP-07 kind of support my impression. I only know what a NIP is because of my interest in the technical aspects of Bitcoin and Nostr. I actually don't even know what those specific NIPs are without looking them up. I've gathered enough context here to figure it out, but no normal user would.

Anyway, I will figure it out, but I hope that's helpful to whoever maintains the tools.

🤗 thanks!

I'm wondering how you got to the nip-05 page without logging in? 🤔 That seems like a bug.

Ah, I can logout and go straight to the page, too. I think that's a feature, not a bug. 😅 If you login there, you can enter the name you want and then select which of the available domains you'd like to use.

I think I get what's going on. Just a really bumpy ride there that could be fixed with some HTML and CSS I think. Plus, drop all the NIP stuff. We shouldn't use those terms outside of Dev circles in my opinion. Those are meant for labeling proposals, not for use in UI for normal people. All my opinion, of course. I have no idea who even needs to see this or if this stuff is even intended for normal users. It isn't really clear. I appreciate your help!

I entered my npub on the landing page and paid an invoice again. I thought I was supposed to click the got nip-5 link, so I did. It took me to that page. Clicking on the top of the page will actually load an entirely different page with a lot of links on it.

Did you have to pay the 21 sats twice?

I paid 300 lol. Following your instructions gave me an invoice button. I didn't realize that was for the relay fee and not whatever fee I was supposed to pay.

Oh dear. You're already subscribed to the relay, remember? It shouldn't be letting you subscribe again, since your hex npub is already listed.

nostr:npub10npj3gydmv40m70ehemmal6vsdyfl7tewgvz043g54p0x23y0s8qzztl5h can you straighten this out and get Matt a NIP-05 address, please, and refund him the difference?

Sorry for the confusion, Matt!

ah, the nip05s..

basically, yes you need to login to that page where it says signin required and you should be presented with the crude nip05 page. the drop down will include relays you are a member of and do a 21 sat invoice when creating..

since im a backend dev, i tend to focus on the backend being solid and then run out of time on the gui side (its endless css).. that is what happened with nip05 😭 i think some power users may want to do their own signup flows and this is possible now with nip86 api (where you can make api calls to the relay to add/remove).. maybe i should add api calls for nip05 as well 🤔

I get it. Front end is a lot of work and deserves its classification as a unique field. I don't want the sats back though, so you're getting them back. 😁 I appreciate your effort!

I've made an issue for it. There's definitely a bug in there, somewhere. Someone already subscribed to the relay over a follow list SHOULDN'T be asked to pay 300 sats and then receive a new duplicate entry in the allow list. And they SHOULD be able to purchase a NIP-05 address for 21 sats (I think Matt didn't receive that option, as he paid something, but has no NIP-05).

I haven't corrected the allow list nostr:npub10npj3gydmv40m70ehemmal6vsdyfl7tewgvz043g54p0x23y0s8qzztl5h , so that you can see the current state, to help with bug-fixing. But can you remove his "paid" entry, when you're done? And issue Matt a NIP-05?

i think he doesnt have a signing extension.. is that correct nostr:nprofile1qqsv0l5jlqx9zmqv2jc4arf9dtq89qgrdkf5ag0l88asek9ql4nhwdsppemhxue69uhkummn9ekx7mp0qyt8wumn8ghj7etyv4hzumn0wd68ytnvv9hxgtcpzamhxue69uhhyetvv9ujumn0wd68ytnzv9hxgtcplgdvn? (without this, it will still allow you to paste a pubkey to join..)

if so, lets make the issue, improve the member signup when no signing is present..

oops, wrong matt, sorry matt 😭😂

I've got you all confused, now. lol

I think he said I needed to sign in. I don't use browser plugins at the moment, so I assume I can't get the nip-05 without that. It's all good if not possible. If it is, matt@whatever is cool. I'll send the sats to wherever you like.

To be fair, it did say I'm already subscribed, I just thought it was funneling me through to a different payment for the NIP5 thing since it was asking me if I had one. I was okay with the relay donation, but I appreciate you clearing it up.

Your confusion is justified. Something isn't straight in the workflow.

You're in the relay list twice, now. 😅 Woops. We'll get it straightened out.

I wish I could offer more, but it's really hard as an outsider who didn't build the thing. I think our space in general needs to value QA more.

Oh, he definitely does. I've sort of abandoned testing his stuff, to work on Alexandria, but I'm trying to interact more with our relay devs, so things should start improving. They all need way more feedback.
