the complaint I see most often about #Nostr is that the content isn’t compelling enough.

that’s not necessarily a #Nostr protocol problem, the burden of content creation is on us, the users.

if that is our largest problem things are going very well 🤙

what is the greatest problem facing the protocol?

Complacency.

Onboarding is probably the biggest barrier for new users. Most people just don't care about the technical stuff that we all know makes nostr great. To them things like relays and dealing with keys are hassles they don't want to think about. Onboarding needs to be streamlined and idiot proofed.

Not to mention, new users also need to learn about #Lightning, which is something that happens completely outside of #nostr.

and if they didn’t learn how to get a Lightning wallet, and learn the relatively difficult process of connecting it, then #nostr is just another social media app, that still doesn’t have enough interesting content.

As much as we want to believe that anti-censorship is what makes #nostr unique, it’s not. because 99.99% of people don’t experience that. Only high profile/ influential people are considered about this, and it’s even a subset of that group.

What makes nostr unique is the micro transaction. That is nostr selling point to a normal user.

Relativity e.g. race conditions on event propagation

We need content creators to solve the content problem. And for that we need the most triumphant onboarding so content creators want to be on the platform.

And for that we need Eddie Van Halen. #billandteds

Syndicating creator content onto Nostr would be a way to solve the content problem while continuing to improve onboarding (it has already improved lots this year). Community members helping content creators set up an account and do the labor of reposting their content here would help with that in the short term. #AlsoOnNostr

technical issues unique to Nostr

I personally post my longer form original content here, and not just bitcoin or nostr related stuff.

I've frequently posted poetry, fiction, book reviews, fantasy and theology. For the most part, it's gone unnoticed. Why?

Here's my speculative opinion:

A few major reasons...

First of all, I'm not a social media influencer. I'm a nobody, no matter that I have things to say in quality prose and poetry.

Second, we desperately need to onboard the masses, and as has been observed, that process is pretty clunky and the incentive for normies to jump in is lacking.

Third, the twitter-like format clients are very ephemeral; you're only as good as your most recent post, and all else is forgotten.

Fourth, already mentioned, it's hard to find topical content... And it sure doesn't help that I often forget to tag mine topically... Clients could help by remembering creators' content tags and suggesting options to easily select.

I see onboarding as the biggest issue. Most people wouldn’t understand keys and how to keep them safe. Maybe that’s just a learning thing though
