It is *highly* suspect.
The Victorian Government which is very left wing wanted to pass an extremely controversial pandemic powers bill end of 2021 which gave carte blanche to run State of Emergency. Everyone would have seen that protest, it was fkn huge as the public were totally opposed to it.
They needed 4 crossbenchers to ram it through and horse traded with the most left wing members for support.
Fiona Patten of the Sex Party got prostitution legalised in the state. Andy Meddick of the Animal Justice Party got horses banned from the CBD and some other garbage.
And Fiona Ratnam of the Greens got an inquiry in to “far right extremism” in Victoria.
The last one was ludicrous but this government has been using that boogeyman for ages.
This was a women’s rights rally which was totally hijacked (notice they don’t cover the actual protest at all) and the cops somehow let these “neo-Nazis” through their cordone in to where the actual rally was. All the images and footage then look like they were there as part of the protest which they definitely were not - then the media spins it this way and the Premier went off on one as he always does.
This was all for show from a government who are known to have the media wrapped around their fingers. It’s honestly disgusting.
We live in fucked up times. Politicians have always been scummy and rotten, but they couldn't get away with shit like this in the past as investigative journalists would uncover and expose such things. Now that they have captured the news media they are much more ballsy and openly corrupt without consequences. Keep your head about it, this is normal for many third world countries, it's just quite a regression for AUS.
