I know hosting the service has costs but I hoped your prior freemium model would be sustainable. This would be a sad development for memes on Nostr

It does. We just had to make website uploads locked with login to eliminate barrage of spam from unrelated and non-nostr people. A lot of porn was being uploaded and other media that was violating the ToS. You need to login and it will work as before.
Whew! Login is annoying/slower but I can certainly understand how it could be abused so it makes sense.
I tried to login with the Nostr DM option (which is a neat option, btw) and it redirected me to purchase an account. I must be doing something wrong
Create an account but don’t pay the invoice. This is also part of abuse prevention until I come up with a good solution to block spam. Sorry for all the hassle 🫂

Just some Growing pains as your great service scales
We might need to introduce a one time processing fee to deter spam accounts. What do you think? API is still free and accessible, so it’ll only be required to use web uploads. I know it’s a little crazy to charge for a free upload, but I am not sure how else I can limit endless creation of accounts to abuse the service
Proof of work (via one time payment) is an established way to prevent abuse. If you wanted to keep it “free” you could hold it in a pseudo-escrow account. You keep if the account spams but you return if a good faith user wants to close their free account. To my understanding Some no-KYC exchanges do something similar to incentivize the two unknown parties to act honestly. That’s fairly complex but an option.
I finally got into my free account but Unfortunately I can’t get it to upload anything on mobile. It doesn’t seem to load all the way.
Just go to https://nostr.build and you’ll have the old screen as before. Good suggestion, I’ll need to think about it.
