what’s your best way to find and explore crazy ideas?

can this be done proactively or do they have to arrive organically somehow?

My guess is being around people who often discuss new things and surface them regularly.

Looking for trends and connecting the dots also make one think about “what if” and just going down those rabbit holes no matter how crazy.

any recs for heretical idea nostr follows?

one of my favorites was Joseph Jacks’s idea that everything should be open sourced (not just bitcoin/nostr/stuff which already seemed obvious to me). i didn’t get it when he first said it to me and now it seems obvious

🤔

I read a book once that described how Leonardo da Vinci used a method called mind mapping. It really helps with exploration of thought.

Seek out those who speak about forbidden topics, those who they say are beyond the pale.

Follow a couple of their rabbit holes 🕳️ 🐇

got any favorites you’re considering right now?

Try some Curtis Yarvin interviews. He’s a scary right-winger with annoying speech pattern but very well read and has interesting ideas. He founded Urbit, has opinions on Bitcoin, and talks a lot about political power and structures essentially countering the anarchist right with neo-reactionary concepts. Lots of rabbit holes in all that!

good rec, i’ll explore a bit in that direction, thanks!

I do it by staying away from screens as much as possible. The most productive idea time is when I just sit with my coffee in the morning and quietly take in the surroundings. Even that might take practice. I’ve been a full time artist for awhile now and even so, the ideas don’t always arrive when I want. Sometime so many happen that I keep a notebook handy for scribbling. Amazing when you sit and see everything man made around you - was someone’s idea first. They’re not crazy if they work and turn into something. #dontsettleforanofftheshelflife

This. My best ideas and thoughts come to me while I’m making breakfast for kids.

It’s always in the morning away from screen.

I would say the thinking can done independently but to make it a reality collaboration is needed

Once you’ve convinced yourself it’s usually extremely easy to convince others.

I got most inspirational moments outside walking in nature leaving the mind flowing, looking at surroundings... And in the shower. 😄

Its difficult to find in a vacuum. The more you speak with others and the more you dive into different businesses and learn what they need to do earlier etc, the more ideas.

At least, this is my experience. And I am a serial entrepreneur which built and sold several businesses and have two pattents.

Take multiple empty sheets of paper, get a pen and close yourself in a room without distractions for at least 1hr and go! No phone, no tech, just paper and a pen ☺️

Just

- write where do you want to get and break it down

- write what you have and combine it together

- do diagrams, make connections try fitting more on the paper than you can, use Al empty space...

this is a simple process and sounds interestingly useful. i particularly like how it makes you deal with discomfort.

have you used this process before and found it effective?

Yes 🙂 this is my goto for solving tricky problems
